Mark 11:23-24 - "Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours"
We tend to pray heavily for specific things we want and things we want to happen.
In this verse, Jesus basically tells us that our God will give us anything that we ask for! His illustration is just as vivid today as it was over 2000 years ago when the words were spoken - nothing less than commanding the mountains to walk into the sea! What a hopeful verse!
However, there is a bit of a catch!
Many of us experience what we feel like are unanswered prayers. How are we supposed to assess this hopeful verse in that context?
Admittedly, we do not always have the answers. However, there is a key component of this piece of scripture that we may tend to overlook. Jesus tells us we must ask in FAITH!
Notice that Jesus even provides some guidance on how to practically "ask in faith". Specifically, he recommends that "...whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it".
I have recently been challenged with a job hunt that has exceeded 2 years. There are lots of peaks and valleys in a 2-year new job hunt. However, with the power of this verse reminding me over the past few months, I have made significantly more progress in achieving the goal of getting a new job. Specifically, there have been more interviews, more connections, and more contacts within the industry than ever before. In addition, I have made significant progress in building my own business with new resources for success.
We all have desires and needs to be fulfilled by God. I encourage you to "ask in faith" moving forward, no matter how big the request, believing that your Father has already provided it to you. Then, please share how you commanded mountains to walk to the sea below...
