Romans 8:26 - "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness..."
Specifically, we need the help, presence, and influence of the Spirit CONSTANTLY!
If you are like me, you find yourself on what feels like a roller coaster of doing well and doing not-so-well in your Christian walk. These highs and lows can even cycle within the matter of hours or minutes throughout the day.
This roller coaster highlights the reality of the "weakness" that is innate in every human being. Even while we make progress in walking the path of righteousness, we are quickly and easily swayed off that path.
This weakness is not through any specific fault of our own beyond the original sin that is our legacy. It just leaves us all extremely vulnerable to sin... and we need the Spirit's help for strength to fight our sinful tendencies!
Personally, I can feel His presence and peace during early morning devotional time. By the time I am on the road driving to work or managing others' requests that are distracting from my personal agenda, I can quickly find myself full of negative thoughts and behaviors that are unrighteous towards others. It is these times that this verse reminds me to pray for the Spirit's help in focusing on His will.
